Hi Everyone,
I wanted to check in with all of you about class this Saturday. I had originally wanted to divide the class since the last class we had was too long, but since some of you will be out of town, I’d like to hold just one class from 1 to 3 P.M.
On Dec. 16, Sunday, I’d like to have two sessions, dividing the class in the afternoon. More on that later.
I think this Saturday we should have a different approach. The classes have sometimes taken a formal tone. This is good to have if we are making a dress rehearsal. But it is also important for us to provide a class situation that bears no resemblance to a performance where the kids can be free to try their newest pieces with piano for the first time with the other students. Maybe this shift in tone could better be accomplished by having only the kids in the living roon, and for me to leave the parents in the kitchen to have tea, or to go to another place in the house to work or read. I think this would take a lot of pressure off the kids. Not all classes would follow this format; sometimes we will simulate a performance, as we will do in our Jan. dress rehearsal.
Kids, please return your theory exams if I gave you one. Claudia and I are curious as to what you know in theory, so please don’t feel you need to research the answers. Its just diagnostic.
Also, please remember to make a copy of the piano part for yourselves to study after you have given your part of Claudia.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Lucia
