May Class Newsletter, Vol. 11, No.14

Dear Parents and Students,

Since tomorrow morning is our dress rehearsal, and most of you have performed your pieces before, we’ll start at 10 a.m. rather than 9. The Bartok girls can come 15 minutes earlier.

I’ll see you as usual this week for lessons. Our concert will be Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m. here at the house. I won’t have Bruce’s help like I usually do, so I’ll plan to provide juice and pizza and ask you to bring some dessert, pot-luck style. For the pizza count, please let me know if you have invited friends and family. Please plan to arrive at 6:30.

I’ll start teaching again between June 3rd and 12th, and then I’ll be gone until Bravo! begins on June 16.

Please let me know your time availability windows for summer for both your weekly schedules and out-of-town schedules.

It is hard to believe that we’re wrapping up another semester, so soon after the snow has melted!
Practice carefully,
Lucia

May Class Newsletter, Vol. 11, No.13

Hi, Everyone,

As I’ve told my students and some of you University observers, I’ll be out of town from the evening of March 9 through Thursday, March 14. I’ll be teaching on the 9th and the 15th. That Saturday, March 16, is our monthly performance class at 10 a.m.  Our rehearsal with Claudia will start at 9 a.m. that day. Since most of you will be losing a lesson next week, please stay prepared.

Here is the Bravo! website for those of you attending this summer:

https://music.umn.edu/events/bravo

The application deadline is April 15. Those of you Schubert Club competition applicants, please apply for the summer scholarship at the Schubert Club. Those younger may be eligible for a summer scholarship run by the musicians’ union. Please see me for details.

Stay warm. Keep practicing. Listen to lots of music.

Old FileAs some of you know, Sally O’Reilly’s U of MN violin students will be coming to observe your lessons. Being observed provides the opportunity to remind us of daily work and lesson habits that we hope to practice all the time in our program, anyway.

Students, remember to bring all your music and come prepared.

Parents, please give as much notice as possible when canceling. Please arrive promptly with kids who are fed, watered, well rested, with their nails trimmed. Those parents who do not practice with your kids, feel free to read in another room. Those of you who do practice with your kids, please watch and take notes.

Show the value of the CD’s in their learning, and step up the listening.
The younger ones should listen to their Suzuki CDs so much that they are part of their environment in the car, kitchen, and bedroom. Older students, use my suggested listening ideas.

As I try to model good teaching, I also want to model expectations for you, our parents.
You and your kids have so much to teach these young musicians who are learning to become teachers. Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work!

By the way, do any of you older timers have a copy of the violin teacher tree I made a few years ago? My computer ate mine.

May Class Newsletter, Vol. 11, No. 11

Hi, Students and Parents,
Tomorrow I’m entering my second week of jury duty. Daily I call in to see if I’m needed for a trial. The only downside is that I can’t know when I have to cancel lessons until midday on the very day of lessons. If I need to cancel I’ll let you know as soon as I can. Also, I’ll be in Rochester on Tuesday for some family medical appointments. We are in a wait and see mode there as well. If you don’t hear otherwise, I’ll see you at your usual times
Remember performance class is Saturday at 10:00, 9:00 for those rehearsing.
We will have a graduation for two of our Saturday class students. I’ll have juice and snacks. You can bring something if you’d like.
See you soon,
Lucia

Ruggiero Ricci

Ruggiero Ricci

Age 12 in 1930. Very inspiring. I stumbled upon this while researching Ricci’s book on Paganini. This is Ricci playing La Campanella.
